Product-analysis: Juice Beauty SPF 8 Lip Moisturizer in Naturally Clear

Personally speaking, the one thing more difficult than finding sun protection that plays nice with my sensitive skin is finding a SPF lip product that plays nice with my sensitive lips. I’ve known my lips to be severely allergic to chemical sunscreens since I was 11. I graduated from playing with mom’s old makeup that year and discovered the world of drugstore makeup. Of course, it made sense to buy lipsticks with SPF protection. Little did I know I was about to experience a nasty bout of allergic reaction. I’ll spare you the gory details. Since then, I’ve been horrified of chemical sunscreens.

A lip balm with 100% mineral sun protection (titanium dioxide and zinc oxide) is hard to come by. If you’re lucky enough to find one that doesn’t contain chemical sunscreens, mineral SPFs are usually so pasty and chalky that it’s far from pleasant to sport in public, which defeats the purpose of a SPF lip balm. I recently found a lip balm with the goods I want with none of the bad. Juice Beauty SPF 8 Lip Moisturizer is a great lip balm that contains enough sun protection for daily wear. I know the SPF is not terribly high, but I think that’s why it’s not chalky or pasty (yay!). The organic ingredients are great and it has this subtle mango-passionfruit scent that comes naturally from the fruit extracts in the product. I have the Naturally Clear and it comes in 2 tinted shades, which I can’t wait to get my hands on!

Ah, I didn't particularly like this one as I didn't find it all that moisturizing... and the two tinted shades have giant specks of glitter in them which weren't flattering at all. If they sold a three-pack of the clear one I'd buy it in a heartbeat though! I'm currently using Jane Iredale's SPF 15 Lip Drink but I find it a tad slidy to put under lipstick.

And my sympathies to you ladies who have had lip allergies to chem ss - I'm allergic too and I totally know how much that SUCKS.

Thank you ladies!

Catherine, good to hear about the JI SPF 15, may have to check that out! Does it leave lip white at all? I'm sorry the Juice Beauty one didn't work out for you, I like how it's slightly matte because it really grabs at my lipgloss and make it stay longer ;)

Hi ladies,

If you wear lipstick, this is also a great lip primer! Urban Decay just came out with one that's not quite economical and it doesn't have sun protection.

Looks neat, I have never had a rash from sunscreen before, doesn't sound fun.
