Farmgirl beauty secret #6: Use liquid foundation to wipe away eye makeup mistakes or “raccoon eyes”.

This tip is a spin-off of Farmgirl Beauty Secret #10, which is great for mascara mistake removal. #6 is a great tip for getting rid of eyeshadow and liner smears or if you are experimenting with different eyeshadow colors and want to remove the color easily. Simply dip a clean q-tip in your favorite liquid foundation (I like to use Illuminare Fantastic Finish Foundation for this purpose), blot q-tip to remove excess and gently swipe the q-tip where the eye makeup mistakes are. Repeat if necessary.

The emollients in liquid foundation combined with the texture of the q-tip will pick up the eye makeup residue and lay down a thin layer of coverage to conceal any hard-to-remove color. This is also great for “mid-day raccoon eyes” and eyeshadow fall-outs. If you are removing color from a larger area, try the same technique using a cotton ball. The result: a fresh canvas. This allows you to erases makeup mistakes without having to wash your face completely.

I have an oil free foundation, would that work?

Hi ladies,

yes, oil-free foundations do work :)

My friend does this - She uses Lacto Calamine lotion during the day to clear any fall out from her black kajal.

That's very interesting! I know my sis has tried calamine lotion for oil-control but it didn't work terribly well (she swears by milk of magnesia now)

speaking of foundations, why aren't food -like ingredients like corn starch desirable on the face?

Brilliant Farmgirl's Beauty Secrets™ said...

Hi Lady Rosenred,

Personally, I avoid them because when mixed with the natural oils and dead skin cells on your face, SOME food-type ingredients have a tendency to spoil. Hope that helps!

thank you! i am trying to figure out what is breaking me out.. i use aloe vera as moisturizer but the gel that i got is meant to be ingested so it has corn starch in it

Brilliant Farmgirl's Beauty Secrets™ said...

Hi sweetie,

I see. Ingestible Aloe Vera gel/water is perfectly fine to use on the face but the fact that it contains corn starch concerns me. It means it should contain preservatives (if it doesn't, that's not good). And that's just an extra ingredient that has no business being there (and an extra ingredient to boost the possibility of breakouts). Let me know if you'd like me to help you find an Aloe Vera without corn starch :)

I've used aloe vera on face years ago but it was not very beneficial for my skin. For moisturizers and treatments that are potent but has the feel of water, I recommend GoW and DHC. They both make great watery serums that soak in with zero residue.

Hi, Farmgirl, thanks again for the advice! I have another ingestible aloe gel and that one has carrageenan, citric acid and potassium sorbate as additives. The first one has corn starch and potassium sorbate.I didn't think it was very beneficial for my skin, but i stopped using it for a bit and my face became all flaky and dry so I think it helps. Gow moisturizer sounds tempting! ;)

Hi there,

Wow, sounds like Aloe Vera really helps your skin. The Carrageenan and the corn starch are both used as thickeners here since ingestible aloe vera tends to be very watery. I've heard about breakouts w/ carrageenan but experiences vary. Let me know which your skin likes better :)
